Umesh Kumar Gupta
Umesh looks after the work under Child Opportunity Fund for the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. Apart from supporting and supervising the work of implementation partners in Uttar Pradesh, he manages the relationship with the government and other key stakeholders at the state and district levels.
Umesh has extensive experience in the child protection sector, spanning over two decades. He worked with diverse groups of stakeholders which include Parliamentarians, Teachers, Police, Border Security Forces, International Development organizations, Coalitions, and grassroots groups. Prior to joining BAT, he worked with organizations like Plan International, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), ActionAid Association, National Coalition for Education and Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
He was awarded a letter of appreciation for his outstanding work during humanitarian response to Nepal Earthquake in 2015 from CEO of Catholic Relief Services and he also received an appreciation letter from Nobel Peace Laureate Mr. Kailash Satyarthi for successfully organizing Children’s World Congress on Child Labour & Education. He had drafted various Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) and Manuals for government agencies on the issue of human trafficking and child protection. He also facilitated the capacity enhancement of border guarding forces and police in state of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on the role of law enforcement agencies in combatting the trafficking of children for forced labour.
Umesh holds a master’s degree in Mass Communications & Public Relations and earned a postgraduate diploma in Child Rights from Jamila Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
