Fatima's story
Fatima’s husband was killed as she and her family were fleeing the horrifying violence in Myanmar. Though she made it across the border to Bangladesh, Fatima now lives in a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar with five young children to feed.
Over 600,000 people have arrived in Cox’s Bazar from the Rakhine state of Myanmar. More than half of the over 600,000 people who have arrived are women and children, and most have suffered sexual and gender-based violence. Our partner BRAC runs almost 200 child-friendly spaces across the makeshift settlements in Cox’s Bazar which double as counselling centres for young women and children.
