Urgent support needed as 30 million affected by Pakistan’s monsoon rains and floods
Pakistan is currently affected by severe flooding causing destruction and displacement of millions of people across Sindh and Baluchistan.
Heavy monsoon rains and floods have washed away homes, personal belongings, livestock and crops for the lowest income groups in Pakistan.
On Thursday 25 August 2022, Pakistan’s climate change minister said that the monsoon rains and flooding in Pakistan have affected more than 30 million people over the last few weeks and called the situation a “climate-induced humanitarian disaster of epic proportions.”
Thirty million people is about 15% of the Pakistan’s population.
Sindh in the country's south east and Balochistan in the south west are the two most affected provinces.
Assistance is needed to provide dry rations, clean drinking water, tents, non-food items, mosquito nets, fodder for livestock and medical supplies.
