With a master’s degree in social work specialising in Criminology and Justice from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, Mitthat has over three years of experience working in the development sector. Her focus has remained to be working in areas of gender and child rights, from her research on domestic violence and Restorative Justice during her master's, working with children on sponsorship and foster care alongside working with women undertrials to her experience working in rural areas with marginalized communities engaged in inter-generational sex work.

During her time in Samvedna (Bhopal), Mitthat led multiple projects, including researching the prevalence of substance use within the Bedia community and overseeing programs spanning across districts of Madhya Pradesh working on child protection and livelihood.

Transitioning to her role as a Child Rights Fellow with the Delhi Government's Child Rights Commission and Ashoka University. Here, she spearheaded initiatives such as the child well-being helpline whilst leveraging it as a tool for good governance. Additionally, she worked on establishing Day Care Centres for children in street situations and engaged in substance use disorders.
