I’m Heeral, wife to Vishal Shah (who has encouraged me to take this challenge on), mother to Veer (age 11) and Mahi (age 9), daughter, sister and at work, I lead the UK Debt Structuring team for Barclays. I have held a variety of roles in Barclays since joining the bank 20+ years ago on the Barclays Leadership Programme – graduate scheme. I am passionate about diversity and inclusion, particularly for ethnically diverse colleagues, women’s empowerment and education across the globe and the ability to make a difference. I am the Executive Sponsor and Founder of Barclays Asian Professionals Forum (APF), Chair of Corporate Bank Embrace – the multicultural network at Barclays, Corporate Bank lead and a member of the Race at Work Taskforce- our response to creating an equitable environment for our black, Asian and ethnically diverse colleagues.
Since turning 40, I’ve focused on both my physical and mental wellbeing. If you had asked me to participate in a challenge like this 10 years ago, there is no way I would have said yes! But I have already walked 26 miles for charity this week and so what’s 250 miles on a bike, right!!! I am so excited but also slightly nervous – however hugely encouraged by all the other riders and the comradery they have shown. I have been a supporter of the British Asian Trust and the incredible work that the British Asian Trust does across South Asia for a number of years. I was fortunate to be introduced to Rohit and Palaces on Wheels by my dear friend, Farzana. The impact of COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on many communities but especially across South Asia.
Wish us luck, as we attempt Palaces on Wheels - as we cycle from Highgrove to Sandringham via Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace in aid of the British Asian Trust from 9-13 June 2021.
